Kuala Lumpur is not quite Singapore, but it is going there somehow too! The buzz is all about innovation and modernization!  But between the skyscrapers you will find those busy streets with a traditional lifestyle. No, it’s not that simple to say if it’s more Chinese, more Indian or more Indonesian. On top of the existing features, typical for this geographic region of Asia, there is a prominent cultural influence of an Arabic origin due to Islam. Malaysian is Malaysian, it’s altogether … plus motorcycles 🙂

The KL airport used to be the biggest in the region, now it shares the connections with Singapore. It is one of my favorite airports in the world.

    

There is an interesting botanic garden in Kuala Lumpur (Lake Gardens) not far from the Central train station. In a walking distance you can find a bird and a butterfly park which are worth visiting too. There are some amazing tropical trees which I have never seen anywhere else (I mean locals may have one or two in their yards or gardens, but they were new to me 🙂 ).

    

Whenever in Kuala Lumpur I loved to try local fruits. At the local markets they wouldn’t know the names in English most of the time, but it wasn’t relevant, it’s all yummy!

Kuala Lumpur is also all about shopping! Malls here, malls there, drop by, take that mall at home! Mind the sizes, as Malay are tiny tiny skinny people!

KL is a busy metropolis. You can get around by transportation on ground, under the ground or above it.

    

Yes, Petronas are beautiful! I’m usually indifferent to the modern buildings, but this glamorous one is a limelight…. with a mall, just in case …

      

Batu Caves is a place of worship for Hindus situated a bit outside of the city. Usually the site is very crowded, in order to avoid that, pass by around 4-5 pm and you’ll have it all for yourself. The monkeys would appreciate if you’d bring them some snacks :).

    

    

Now, durians are not for everybody. However this fruit is quite beloved by locals and is not one of the cheapest. There are different deserts and even ice scream made from durian. The fruit has a sweet strong taste  … not one of those sweet fruity smells though. They are banned in hotels, banned in airports, don’t you dare taking it into your flight :P!
