This time in Oman. If you expected to see skyscrapers like in the neighbouring states, this is not the case. Muscat is from another project. A lot of how Oman looks today is a vision of Sultan Qaboos. You won’t see buildings higher than 5 floors and you will definitely notice that the majority of houses will have a very unique architecture with traditional elements and beautiful doors. Oman remains extensively traditional, nevertheless very modern.

This palace made me think of Aladdin … Oman in general makes me think of Aladdin 🙂

Welcome to Muscat – the white city of the Gulf!

Here he is, a man of charisma and style! One of the few modern sultans, who is distinctively interested in the prosperity of his people! Actually monarchs are not bad at all if they would be just a lil bit like Qaboos.

Only a couple of hours drive from Muscat there are amazing beaches. Endless amazing beaches! You can spot so much marine life – turtles, dolphins, crabs, whales, all kinds of colorful fish – you name it!

There is a long history to Oman, telling about a powerful empire which once was reaching as far as Zanzibar. You can have a look at the wooden doors to discover the connection. More explicit evidence are the people of Oman who are a mix of many cultures, but a lot of them look African!

The Old Muttrah Souq in Muscat is worth a visit. It is one of the oldest markets in the Arab world. Get a khanjar, some frankincense and some spices!  Ah, don’t forget to ask if they have halwa! Delicious staff! You might find it a couple of streets behind the market.

This is one of my favourite countries. The hospitality of random people is so grand, the scenery is overwhelming, the food is very tasty – I’m looking forward to another chance to be there!
