After a long overnight bus ride from Santa Cruz, finally arrived to Sucre. Only later did I learn that this was the place with the most hospitable and friendly people in Bolivia. Sucre is situated at a much higher altitude than Santa Cruz, but not so high as Uyuni, Potosi or La Paz. So my bus was constantly going up and up, it was really strange. Sucre is a white city! Foreigners come here to take Spanish classes or stop on their way to Salar de Uyuni. I liked Sucre very much, it was distinctive from other places in Bolivia, much tidier. It was my first real encounter with Bolivia and I was eager to try everything, so I went to the market.
The market was right in the center of the city, full of fresh fruits and not so fresh meat. The pineapples were gigantic, I’ve never seen such pineapples!!!
I like bread and here there was a huge offer of all kind of bakings. The Brazilian nuts were in abundance, which was a nice surprise. I have not seen any being sold in the north-east of Brazil, just at the municipal market in Sao Paulo.
In Sucre they produce amazing chocolate. They have a local high-end brand, called Para ti. It is expensive, but it is delightful! So classy! Their shops are very chic.
Last but not least, Sucre is a relaxing town. It is worth stopping here on your way to Uyuni, because once there, you’ll see the real touristic hell!
I love your photos of Bolivia. I haven’t been to South America…..yet:)
