The waters around Dakar are amazing! Up north, in Saint Louis the waters are yellowish-greenish, in Dakar the color is turquoise and south, in Sine-Saloum, it is brownish. The types of shells also change along the coast, you will not find the same shells from the north to the south. When it comes to fishing, it’s the traditional way they practice. Sometimes local fishermen tame pelicans which help with catching the haul … I’ve seen one in the village, opposite Ngor island. Fishing tours are available from the little village opposite Ngor island. A lot of dolphins teem in these water, cheerfully engaging into a race with the passing boats!
Good morning from the King Fahd Palace Hotel in the Almadies! You can see Ngor island is the distance. From the hotel it would take you about a 10-15 min walk along the coast to the village, where you can take a boat to get to the island or for a fishing tour.
The African Renaissance Monument is the tallest statue in Africa. Is has been built by North Koreans. The statue has raised a lot of criticism and controversy, nevertheless it is still there :). Yeah, it looks very communist and doesn’t show as African, however it has a political cause, therefore never mind, political statues shouldn’t cause much stress, I think 🙂
Every morning you can see some fishermen along the beach in Almadies. They know the right time, the right spot and the necessary skills to bring home a good catch.
There’s a lot of scared crabs in the shallow waters, running crazily whenever you appear.
You can easily spot these huge reptiles everywhere in Senegal! Don’t panic, I think they’re more scared of you!
The golf course in Almadies is right on the beach.
Almadies is a bit aside from the busy center of Dakar, it is a blend of luxury hotels and traditional local fishermen villages. A great place to relax and discover the Senegalese lifestyle!
How cool, those photos were beautiful. I have never been. But I want to go to Dakar and Nouakchott (Mauritania).
