Anja Park is absolutely surreal and breathtaking! Like from another planet. Although mainly known for the ring-tailed lemurs, Anja Park is also a place of spectacular mountains and viewpoints. It’s distinguished for its massive fallen rocks with magnificent vistas. With the backdrop of massive granite rocks, an enormous valley of all natural colors together with the lemur forest lies deep down at your feet. You find yourself in a 360° view inside of a masterpiece of nature.
The park is not so big and it is a great stop on your RN7 Trip, not to miss!
How to get to Anja Park
Drive from Antananarivo with a few overnight stops in different locations such as Antsirabe and Ambalavao. Then, from Fianarantsoa it’s around a 1h 40min ride to Anja and it’s located literally on the RN7 road, with a clear sign by the road saying “Anja”.
Things to do in Anja Park
- Circuits: There are 2 circuits available in Anja Park, a short circuit of 2 hours (to see lemurs + viewpoint) and a long circuit of 6 hours (to climb up the mountain, which requires some climbing skills)
- Lemurs: Today 400 ring-tailed lemurs, Maki, can call Anja Park their home. This types of lemurs live in groups of 20 and currently they have such 20 families. Early in the morning and late afternoon you will have a better chance to see them from closer, as this is the time when they come down from the trees. During the day they stay mainly on the trees or in the canopies, since this is the time when it’s hot and they rest.
Where to stay in Anja Park
If you want to stay overnight here, there is a very nice hotel, Betsileo Country Lodge, located just 15 min before Anja, on the same road.
